Image from Wall Builders

Yesterday, the Portsmouth Republicans donated a framed copy of this picture to the Portsmouth Library in honor of Black History Month. The picture is currently hung by the entrance of the Levenson Room and will be there for a week.  The picture is of the first six Congressmen and the first Senator to serve in the U.S. Congress. It also tells a short synopsis of the men’s lives and service. Not only were they all great men– they were also all great Republicans! We encourage you to stop by the library sometime this week and take a look at the portrait.

Along with the picture, the Portsmouth Republicans also donated a DVD and a CD titled  “American History in Black and White” that further documents the historical events of black Americans in the later part of 19th century.

As Republicans, we need to be aware and proud of our part in these events– a part that seems to have been forgotten in recent years.

Sincerely,

Portsmouth Republican City Committee
